For their study, researchers obtained 2003-2006 hospital performance data for heart-failure from The Joint Commission. This performance data was linked to hospital characteristics, such as area-level sociodemographic information, obtained from the American Hospital Association.
Results from their analysis showed market competition was only slightly associated with changes in hospital quality performance in inpatient heart-failure care.
