The Joint Commission has launched its Speak Up on Antibiotics campaign to educate the public on appropriate and safe antibiotic use, as well as the risks associated with antibiotic overuse.

As part of the campaign, the Joint Commission released a complete package of free resources — including an infographic, podcast and video — which are available to download here.

The infographic illustrates which illnesses may require an antibiotic and provides patients with a list of questions to ask when prescribed an antibiotic, the podcast covers the most common misconceptions about how antibiotics work and how they should be prescribed, and the video encourages patients to follow their physician’s instructions regarding medication adherence.

Promoting effective antibiotic use is the latest campaign in the Speak Up patient safety series, which was originally launched by the Joint Commission in March 2002.
