Currently, The Joint Commission is the only accrediting body referenced under Georgia law. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Butch Miller (R-Ga.), would allow hospitals to undergo accreditation by other nationally recognized accreditation entities.

The bill is now headed to the state House of Representatives.
