A clinical leader at Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network has drawn attention to the rising cases of rotavirus among children, according to an April 29 CBS News report.
Joseph Aracri, DO, system chair of pediatrics for Allegheny Health, told CBS News the late April uptick in rotavirus cases is a divergence from the typical increase seen in February and March.
National data supports Dr. Aracri’s assertion, with the CDC reporting a nearly 3 percentage point increase in positive rotavirus tests between March 21 and April 18.
Wastewater tracking data from Stanford (Calif.) University and Atlanta-based Emory University identified rotavirus concentration as “high” both regionally and across the U.S.
