CMH Regional Health System, who operates the hospital, is in talks with TriHealth Company of Cincinnati and has recently begun discussions with The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. According to the report, CMH has entered into confidentiality agreements with both TriHealth and The Christ Hospital, so details regarding the discussions are limited.
Complicating affiliation talks is CMH’s accumulating debt, around $40.5 million since 2000. Job losses at the nearby Wilmington Air Park and uncertainty regarding financial markets and healthcare reform were cited by CMH officials as causes for other delays in an affiliation, according to the report.
CMH expects to apply for a change of 501(C)(3) status if an affiliation agreement is reached, which the hospital hopes will add $2.5 million in revenues. CMH also plans to change its current status from not-for-profit county hospital to a not-for-profit corporation as soon as possible.
