Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine is the first medical school to open in the city in 100 years — and will begin classes in fall 2026, the Chicago Sun Times reported June 2.
The school, which is also the first-ever osteopathic medical school in Chicago, is being constructed in a former Tyson Foods building for about $48 million. The 247,000-square-foot space has eight floors of classrooms, labs and study spaces. The school received pre-accreditation approval last month and is in the process of recruiting and admitting students for its inaugural class.
The inaugural class will have about 85 students, but after the first two cohorts, the school will expand to admit up to 170 students annually.
