Montana is joining 14 other states to be part of the Physician Assistant Licensure Compact, which allows PAs to practice across state borders.
On April 2, Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte signed into law a bill to adopt the compact. The 14 other states participating in the compact are Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Before licensed PAs in Montana can begin practicing in these states, the participation process needs to be operationalized, which takes 18 to 24 months, according to the American Academy of Physician Associates.
