Here's how 2 health systems improved preventative eye care for diabetic patients

Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of adult blindness in the U.S. One of the greatest barriers to prevention is access.

All diabetic patients are asked to visit an eye care provider for an annual diabetic retinal exam, but very few patients follow through. Leading health systems are turning to new technology and processes to improve patient compliance and detect eye disease early.

Yousuf Khalifa, MD, chief of service of ophthalmology at Grady Health System in Atlanta, and Anas Daghestani, MD, president and CEO of Austin Regional Clinic, are two such examples of innovation in diabetic eye care. At their respective organizations, Drs. Khalifa and Daghestani implemented diabetic retinal exam solutions for primary care that integrated with their unique processes, workflows and EHR to make patient identification, examination, billing and treatment more effective.

Join Drs. Khalifa and Daghestani during a webinar September 26 as they share their stories and discuss the initiatives' results in their patient populations.

Webinar registrants will learn:

  • How two health systems operationalized a scalable diabetic retinal program in primary care;
  • How health systems can implement a similar program and bring retinal exams to patients at their primary point of care;
  • What decision criteria should be used to evaluate success and how to champion the program within a health system.
