Groups Release Management Guidelines for Community-Acquired Pneumonia in Children

The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and the Infectious Diseases Society of America have released guidelines for managing community-acquired pneumonia in infants and children older than 3 months of age, according to an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality publication.

The guidelines were designed to provide healthcare providers guidance in the diagnosis and management of community-acquired pneumonia in outpatient or inpatient settings. The guidelines also address ways to decrease morbidity and mortality rates for community-acquired pneumonia in children older than three months of age. The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and the Infectious Diseases Society of America utilized a rating system to indicate the strength of each recommendation based on medical literature.
