Digital marketer bans anti-vaccination content, shuts down some user accounts

Digital marketer Mailchimp will no longer provide services to newsletters and users that spread anti-vaccination content, according to NBC News.

Mailchimp began removing anti-vaccination activists from its platform earlier this week.

"Mailchimp has shut down a number of accounts for anti-vaccination content that violates our Terms of Use, and we're adding this category to our routine searches for prohibited content," a spokesperson for the company told NBC News. "Spreading misinformation about the safety and efficacy of vaccines poses a serious threat to public health and causes real-world harm. We cannot allow these individuals and groups to use our Marketing Platform to spread harmful messages and expand their audiences."

Over the past six months, the spread of vaccine misinformation has been under scrutiny. Earlier this year, Amazon removed anti-vaccination documentaries from its Prime Video service. Facebook also plans to reduce the spread of vaccination misinformation on its platform.
