Specifically, Delaware’s eight critical care hospitals reported four infections between October 2011 and December 2011. Those hospitals include Christiana Hospital in Newark (two infections), St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington (one infection) and Kent General Hospital in Dover (one infection).
The report also showed six of the eight hospitals had a central line utilization ratio that was significantly higher than the national benchmark, as reported by the CDC. A central line utilization ratio allows hospitals to determine if use of central lines in their ICUs is greater or less than the national average.
