Congo’s Ebola outbreak hits 840 cases: 4 things to know

Health officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo have reported 840 Ebola cases linked to an ongoing outbreak as of Feb. 18, reports CIDRAP News.

Four things to know:

1. Of the 840 Ebola cases, 775 are confirmed. Health officials also reported 472 confirmed and 65 probable deaths linked to the outbreak, which started in August.

2. Another 185 suspected cases are still under investigation, and 294 people have been cured.

3. Most new cases are occurring in the city of Katwa, which remains the current epicenter of the outbreak.

4. Health workers have administered 80,989 experimental Ebola vaccines to people in the Congo and nearby countries since August.
