CDC sponsors webcast on evaluating and managing infants with congenital Zika

On Thursday morning, the CDC sponsored a webcast in collaboration with the American Academy of Pediatrics to review and discuss what is known about congenital Zika virus infection and the clinical evaluation and management of infants born with Zika infections.

As the number of Zika cases in the U.S. continues to rise, so shall the number of infants born with Zika. The Thursday discussion was held to take questions and lead discussion on the subject in order to develop interim guidance for healthcare providers on how to evaluate and manage infants with Zika born with and without virus-related birth defects like microcephaly.

On Friday, a second webcast will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and will discuss the recommendations that emerged from Thursday's discussion.
