CDC orders $2.7M worth of Ebola PPE

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has ordered $2.7 million in Ebola-specific personal protective equipment to help U.S. hospitals prepare to care for possible Ebola patients.

The PPE will be organized into 50 kits that can be delivered to hospitals, and each kit will supply a hospital team with enough equipment to care for one Ebola patient for up to five days. The kits include impermeable gowns, coveralls, aprons, boot covers, gloves, face shields and hoods, respirators and disinfecting wipes.

According to the CDC, since it released its guidelines for PPE for caring for Ebola patients, there has been an increase in demand for PPE. However, the new kits will not interfere with orders for PPE already placed by states and hospitals.
