For the week ending Oct. 7, the percentage of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness was 1.4 percent, which sits below the national baseline of 2.2 percent. All 50 states experienced minimal flu activity for the week, with just Colorado and South Carolina reporting local influenza activity. Thirty-eight states experienced sporadic flu activity.
The percentage of respiratory specimens testing positive for influenza nationally was 2.7 percent for the week. No influenza-related pediatric deaths have been reported for the 2017-18 flu season. For the 2016-17 flu season, the CDC recorded 107 pediatric influenza-related deaths.
