California nursing home receives $160k fine for care violations

The California Department of Public Health fined the Eureka (Calif.) Rehabilitation and Wellness Center $160,000 last week for six violations involving patient care, staffing and administrative errors, according to a report from the Eureka Times Standard.

The violations reportedly occurred between May and October 2016. At the time, Brius Healthcare Services — the nursing home's owner — was working closely with the Eureka center to improve issues related to poor nurse recruitment and staff retention issues. Specifics regarding the six errors are not currently available, according to the report.

In addition to the most recent penalties, the center has been cited for eight additional errors since Brius assumed ownership in April 2011.
