The American Hospital Association held a panel discussion on hospital quality Jan. 24 in Washington, D.C. An example of hospitals’ success via quality and safety initiatives that was shared at the panel is a reduction in newborn central line-associated bloodstream infections by 58 percent in 100 neonatal intensive care units. This was a result of an AHA Health Research & Educational Trust project funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
In addition, Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America shared success in decreasing elective deliveries of newborns before 39 weeks of gestation, according to the report.
