900 hep A cases reported Ohio as outbreak spreads to neighboring states

Ohio has seen more than 900 hepatitis A cases that also are affecting neighboring states, according to CBS Pittsburgh.

Within the last few years, Ohio has reported only a dozen cases. But during the current outbreak, two-thirds of hepatitis A cases have been hospitalized. Only one death  has been reported, in Montgomery County.

This year, 81 cases of been reported in Pennsylvania. Michigan reported 843 cases, Kentucky reported 761, West Virginia reported 248, and Indiana reported 138 cases.

Health officials recommend people protect themselves by either receiving a hepatitis A vaccine or by using good hygiene.
