Four nurses who have saved lives outside the workplace:

2. Tracy Ryan responded quickly when a young girl nearly drowned at the Cherry Creek Reservoir in Colorado on July 28. Ms. Ryan administered CPR while a team of at least 2 other nurses and a neurologist, who also happened to be on-site, alternated giving chest compressions, reported NBC affiliate KUSA. The girl was revived after 10 minutes.

A family climbed out of the car with no critical injuries, and Dr. Koehler guided them to the road median for immediate treatment while her daughter called 911, according to The Winona Post.
