3 themes from MAP’s healthcare quality measure recommendations to HHS

The National Quality Forum’s Measures Applications Partnership, a multistakeholder partnership that helps HHS select performance measures for federal health programs, issued its 2016-17 set of recommendations Wednesday.

The recommendations cover 74 performance measures under 16 federal programs. This year, MAP recommended the future removal of measures “to strengthen current measure sets used in federal programs,” according to Helen Burstin, MD, NQF’s chief scientific officer.

Three themes from this year’s review of measures under consideration include:

1. Identifying the need for high-value measures

2. Balancing the effort of data collection for and reporting with the potential for the measure to improve quality and outcomes

3. Encouraging shared accountability and cooperation among healthcare stakeholders
