The outbreak was first detected May 18, and a second round of children was diagnosed on May 30.
Everything at the school has since been “vigorously cleaned,” including playground equipment.
Scabies is caused by the human itch mite, which burrows into the upper layer of the skin to lay eggs, according to the CDC. They spread easily through skin-to-skin contact.
Scabies can be treated with products called scabicides available by prescription. According to the Chicago Tribune, children can return to the daycare 24 hours after treatment.
