Cameo Garrett, 49, died of coronary artery disease July 9. She contracted Legionnaires’, which health officials say contributed to her death, after staying at an Atlanta hotel for a conference in late June.
The Sheraton Atlanta voluntarily shut down July 15 so health officials could investigate the source of the infections, reports NPR affiliate GPB.
As of Aug. 6, the Georgia Department of Public Health has reported 12 confirmed and 61 probable Legionnaires’ cases linked to the hotel outbreak.
Sheraton Atlanta is working closely with health officials and has “voluntarily moved ahead with precautionary remedial activities while awaiting [testing] results,” general manager Ken Peduzzi told AJC via email.
