Influenza activity remains elevated across the U.S., according to the Doctors Report Illness Tracker, which estimates local and national illness activity based on reports from nearly 1 million physicians nationwide.

The illness tracker ranks the severity of flu activity on a 10-point scale. Here are the 11 metropolitan areas with highest flu severity scores, as of Monday.

1. New York City metro area — 9.5

*Includes parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania  

2. Washington, D.C., metro area — 9.5

*Includes parts of Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia

3. Boston metro area — 9.5

*Includes parts of New Hampshire

4. Miami metro area — 9.5

5. Atlanta metro area — 9.5

6. Charlotte, N.C., — 9.5

*Includes parts of South Carolina

7. Orlando, Fla., metro area — 9.5

8. Jacksonville, Fla., metro area — 9.5

9. Richmond, Va., metro area — 9.5

10. Baltimore metro area — 9.0
