The survey of 185 healthcare leaders asked which nonmedical barriers in healthcare organizations will act on in the next 12 months. Many respondents (63.7 percent) said they plan to offer programs addressing care coordination. Respondents also indicated a plan to offer programs addressing:
Transportation — 39.1 percent
Food insecurity/access — 27 percent
Benefits coordination for public assistance — 23 percent
Social isolation — 19.4 percent
Housing insecurity — 15.3 percent
In-home modifications (e.g. grab bars, ramps) — 14. 1 percent
Medically tailored meals — 10.9 percent
Financial literacy — 8.5 percent
Other — 3.2 percent
Only 17.3 percent of respondents said they won’t be addressing nonmedical barriers to care at all within the next 12 months.
