HIMSS: Population health strategies improve outcomes in colon cancer screenings

When providers implement technologies and software that advance population health strategies, they notice improved outcomes, writes health IT consultant Margaret Schulte in a Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society blog post

Here is how four healthcare organizations improved outcomes for colon cancer screening by focusing on population health, according to HIMSS Health IT Value Collection reports.

1. Over a nine-year period, Jersey City, N.J.-based Grove Medical Associates increased screenings for eligible patients from 12 percent to 75 percent.

2. Dorchester, Mass.-based DotHouse Health increased screenings from 49 percent to 64 percent by reviewing their data and revising physician workflows.

3. Milburn, N.J.-based P.A.S.E. healthcare improved their colon cancer screening rate by over 80 percent with the help of its EHR.

4. After implementing its EHR, Georgetown, Texas-based Lone Star Circle of Care increased its screening rate by 71 percent.
