The company violated the Americans with Disabilities Act, the jurors found. Walmart will pay the pharmacist Lori Jacobs, PharmD, roughly $1 million.
In 2016 Walmart implemented a rule that all pharmacists would need to be able to give immunizations. Dr. Jacobs, who lives with cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis, was unable to provide injections.
Dr. Jacobs worked in Walmart’s pharmacy from 2007 until 2017, when she was let go by the company.
Walmart told The News Tribune that it attempted to be accommodating for Dr. Jacobs, but that “providing immunizations is an essential job function for pharmacists at Walmart and leading pharmacy chains across the country, and it’s a vital service that local communities depend on.”
