Steroids easily accessible through Facebook and YouTube, study finds

Steroids can be purchased easily through social media sites Facebook and Youtube, according to a new study by a coalition of nonprofits, including the Taylor Hooton Foundation and Digital Citizens Alliance.

For the study, researchers performed simple searches for steroids on the two online platforms. They were quickly linked to numerous YouTube videos showing them who to call to buy the drugs and how to use them, according to CNBC. They also found many Facebook pages leading to purported steroid sellers.

Many of the steroids were promoted by fitness models and athletes popular among teenagers, according to CNBC.

Steroids are not policed on social media in the same way as other drugs are, the study authors concluded.
