Soon after Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed the bill, several Colorado lawmakers received inquiries about the law from California, Minnesota and Pennsylvania officials.

The law is generating interest from other states because the price of insulin has skyrocketed in recent years, according to the report. For example, the price of insulin has risen by 555 percent in Colorado over the last 14 years.

Under the Colorado law, insurers are expected to absorb the extra costs of the lifesaving medication for patients.
