The ordered payment is the latest jury verdict, and 11th loss, for J&J since trials over cancer claims tied to its talc-based baby powders began.

The jury in Oakland, Calif., found  J&J’s baby powder and Colgate’s Cashmere Bouquet baby powder caused  Patricia Schmitz’s mesothelioma, a cancer linked to asbestos exposure.

J&J and Colgate were each found 40 percent responsible for her illness. Each company will pay $4.8 million in damages.

J&J faces more than 14,000 lawsuits claiming its powders caused ovarian cancer and mesothelioma.
