Many pharmacies across the East Coast have made it easier for patients to obtain refills before the hurricane reaches the area.
CVS Pharmacy took several steps in the last few days to ensure patients could obtain their prescriptions. In particular, it activated a process that allows pharmacists to provide one-time, 10-day emergency refills for those affected by Hurricane Dorian.
Many CVS and Walgreens stores closed early or entirely on Sept. 3. Many had signs saying they would return on Sept. 4, after the hurricane passed in Florida.
Smaller pharmacies, on the other hand, stayed open as long as possible to ensure patients were able to obtain their medicine, according to the report.
Rebecca Mitchell, a pharmacy clerk at Owen’s Pharmacy in Riverside, Fla., told First Coast News that she delivered medications personally to home-bound patients before the storm.
