Hawaii health department to purchase 1 year supply of mifepristone

The Hawaii Department of Health and Honolulu-based Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children have agreed to partner in purchasing a year's supply of mifepristone — equivalent to 1,000 doses, according to an Aug. 24 news release.

"Access to reproductive healthcare is critical for maternal health outcomes,"  Kenneth Fink, MD, the Hawaii state director of health, said in the release. "Limiting the availability of an FDA-approved medication with 20 years of usage disregards science and threatens public health. We have taken proactive steps to reduce disruption to women being able to access this safe medication in Hawaii."

Purchasing the bulk supply in partnership with the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children"ensures consistent access to care for patients across the state," Douglas Kwock, MD, the vice president of medical affairs at Hawaii Pacific Health said in the release.
