Insys Therapeutics founder John Kapoor's name will be removed from the University of Buffalo (N.Y.) School of Pharmacy, following Kapoor's conviction last month in a racketeering conspiracy, according to Buffalo News.
Mr. Kapoor was found guilty in a Boston court of bribing physicians to overprescribe Insys' opioid-based drug Subsys to boost profits. Prosecutors accused Mr. Kapoor of orchestrating a nationwide bribery scheme.
The pharmacy building was named John and Editha Kapoor Hall in honor of the couple who donated $10.8 million to the university. Mr. Kapoor graduated from the University of Buffalo with a doctorate in medicinal chemistry in 1972.
The University at Buffalo Council council voted to take Kapoor's name off the building June 3.
