Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai has developed a publicly available database that can be used to study adverse medication events — a $500 billion issue and the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S.

Researchers at the health system compiled data from 47,211 drug labels approved in the U.S., the U.K., the European Union and Japan, analyzing 3,233 drug ingredient combinations using a predictive model.

The model identified more than 3.6 million adverse drug events.

The database, called OnSIDES (ON-label SIDE effectS resource), is hosted on GitHub. Researchers said the database can support efforts to detect and divert medication risks, according to findings published April 2 in Med
