University of Chicago Medicine to join Cigna-HealthSpring Medicare Advantage network

The University of Chicago Medicine will be added to the Cigna-HealthSpring Medicare Advantage provider network on Jan. 1, according to a statement.

The partnership gives Cigna-HealthSpring beneficiaries access to the UChicago Medicine physician network. Physicians in the network, which include 40 primary care physicians and more than 900 specialists, will receive clinical and data-management support through Cigna-HealthSpring's Partnership for Quality care coordination program, according to the statement. The program will reward physicians based on their performance on various quality measures.

"Based on this successful and collaborative relationship, we will be able to provide outstanding primary and specialty care to seniors in our community," said Brenda Battle, UChicago Medicine's vice president of Care Delivery Innovation.

UChicago Medicine and Cigna-HealthSpring are currently partnered in state-sponsored services for Medicaid beneficiaries and dual-beneficiaries, and UChicago is in Cigna's commercial network.

Cigna-HealthSpring is a division of Cigna that provides insurance to seniors through Medicare Advantage and other Medicare and Medicaid products.
