Providence Health Plan signs letter of intent to acquire Salem-based health IT company

Providence Plan Partners, a Providence Health Plan affiliate, is in talks to acquire Performance Health Technology, a Salem, Ore.-based company that supports provider-sponsored health plans in Oregon and California, according to the Portland Business Journal.

PHT provides administrative support to a number of Oregon's Coordinated Care Organizations, which provide care to Medicaid patients. It serves 37 counties in Oregon and processes nearly 10 million claims each year.

"Both Providence and Performance Health Technology are committed to serving the needs of the poor and vulnerable within the Pacific Northwest," said Mike Cotton, CEO for Providence Health Plan, according to the Portland Business Journal. "Together, we have the potential to seek greater affordability, achieve outstanding and reliable clinical care, improve the patient experience and introduce new services where they are needed most."

The two organizations are hoping to finalize an agreement, which they hope will be definitive sometime early this year, according to the Portland Business Journal.
