The most popular health plans offered through Affordable Care Act exchanges on average have lower price tags than some employer-based health plans, CNBC reports.
A Urban Institute study found when taking into account medical services coverage, healthcare usage and age, ACA silver plans — the most popular, second-lowest cost plan — cost 10 percent less on average than average employer-based health plans. The average monthly premium for silver plans was $464 for an individual, compared to $515 per month for employer-based counterparts.
The average premiums for silver ACA plans were lower than the average employer-based premiums in 38 states and the District of Columbia, according to the report.
