The seven-member bipartisan panel voted 5-2 in favor of the expansion at its meeting yesterday, according to the report. Gov. Kasich sought the panel’s approval as a way around the Republican-controlled state legislature, which has rejected the expansion.
Opponents of the reform initiative have threatened to sue on the grounds that the panel doesn’t have the authority to approve the expansion, according to the report.
The expansion will extend Medicaid coverage to approximately 275,000 people earning up to 138 percent of the poverty level.
