UnitedHealthcare is using predictive analysis to tackle social determinants of health for some of its employer-sponsored plans, the company said July 8.
The tool uses claim data to predict which members will need support with such things as healthy food or housing. A UnitedHealthcare call center and other community resources are then used to help members with these issues.
The new effort, developed with UnitedHealthcare affiliate Optum, spans over 300 markets and uses 100 metrics to determine need.
Employers using Advocate4Me Elite or Advocate4Me Premier programs will initially have access to predictive analysis services. UnitedHealthcare has taken similar steps for Medicare and Medicaid recipients.
Half of the individuals targeted by predictive analysis and approached by a call center representative have received aid, according to UnitedHealthcare.
