Medicaid work requirements in Arkansas push 12K members from program

Arkansas said more than 12,000 Medicaid beneficiaries no longer have coverage because they did not comply with new work requirements, according to data cited by The Hill.

The state's work requirements took effect in June and began rolling out two months later. The regulation requires beneficiaries to work, attend school, volunteer or search for jobs at least 80 hours each month. If they fail to report the work appropriately to the state, they will be blocked out of Medicaid until the next year.

The number of beneficiaries who lost coverage in the past month climbed to 3,815 after they did not meet the work requirements for three months in a row. In the three months the requirements have been effective, 12,128 people have lost Medicaid coverage until Jan. 1.

As December approaches, there are 6,002 more people at risk for losing coverage, according to The Hill.
