HealthCare.gov CEO says marketplace is 'maturing'

During a health exchanges forum hosted by America's Health Insurance Plans on March 8, HealthCare.gov CEO Kevin Counihan said the Affordable Care Act exchanges are in good shape, according to The Hill.

"We're seeing the maturing of a marketplace — people getting a bit more experienced and comfortable on how to buy coverage," Mr. Counihan said.

This year's open enrollment period ended in January, and Mr. Counihan said enrollment numbers were showing "just what you want to see in a risk pool."

Mr. Counihan added that the exchanges process is only expected to improve in the years to come. "It's going to get smoother, it's going to get faster, it's going to get more efficient," he said, according to the report.

In addition, he pointed to viability efforts between HealthCare.gov and the various state-run marketplaces. Mr. Counihan and his staff have visited approximately 13 states and spoke to 20 marketplace CEOs to discuss potential limitations and weak points in the ACA marketplace.
