Geisinger, Meridian scrap Medicare Advantage plan

Geisinger Health Plan and Hackensack Meridian Health ended a four-year collaboration on their Medicare Advantage plan — Geisinger Gold — and will not offer the plan in New Jersey for 2017.

While the Danville, Pa.-based health plan and the Edison, N.J.-based health system dissolved their joint plan, Meridian hospitals and providers in Monmouth and Ocean counties will still be in network with Geisinger.

"Hackensack Meridian Health is working with Geisinger Health Plan to ensure our patients are able to find new health plans that address their needs," Patrick Young, president of population health for Hackensack Meridian Health, said.

Geisinger Health Plan CEO Steven Youso said the decision was difficult and "not made lightly."

Affected members will receive coverage through 2016 and will be able to purchase plans during a special enrollment period through Feb. 28, 2017.
