Baltimore-based Evergreen Health policyholders have received conflicting information about deadlines for signing up for health plans through the federal exchange as they hurry to find insurance because of the insurer's inability to sell policies on the exchange, reports The Baltimore Sun.
On Dec. 8 the Maryland Insurance Administration decided to not let Evergreen sell health plans on Maryland's federal exchange until its acquisition and conversion to a for-profit entity concludes. The administration gave thousands of Evergreen members until Dec. 31 to find a new plan, according to the report.
However, the insurer notified its 9,000 individual members they need to enroll in another plan by Dec. 15 to ensure coverage beginning Jan. 1. The deadline is the same for all plans on the federal exchanges.
Evergreen members do have until the end of the month to sign up for coverage. Insurance regulators, however, said enrollees should not wait until the last minute, but rather apply early to ensure the members have insurance cards and confirmation of coverage by Jan. 1.
