The incident comes after BCBS of Michigan alerted roughly 15,000 Medicare Advantage members last month that their personal information may have been compromised after an employee’s laptop computer was stolen Oct. 26.
In the most recent incident, the insurer’s service provider, Wolverine Solutions Group, notified the university in January that a data security incident may have affected certain health plan members.
According to the letter, on Sept. 23, 2018, Wolverine Solutions Group “experienced a ransomware incident — a malicious software that attacked and locked up our servers and workstations.” The company said an investigation did not find evidence indicating the data had been extracted.
