Anthem’s profit increase was largely attributable to higher enrollment. As of Dec. 31, 2014, Anthem’s medical enrollment totaled approximately 37.5 million members, up 5.2 percent from Dec. 31, 2013.
“We are pleased with the solid finish to 2014, which leaves us well-positioned for growth in 2015,” said Joseph Swedish, president and CEO of Anthem. “Our membership growth in 2014 is encouraging and we remain focused on improving healthcare affordability and quality.”
The insurer’s net income for full fiscal 2014 was $2.6 billion, up slightly from its net income of $2.5 billion for full fiscal year 2013.
