Kentucky is the ninth state in which Anthem will cut individual marketplace participation next year. The payer sold individual exchange and off-exchange products in 14 states this year.
In a statement to CNBC, Anthem said, “Today, planning and pricing for [ACA]-compliant health plans has become increasingly difficult due to a shrinking and deteriorating individual market.” The payer also pointed to uncertainty about whether President Donald Trump’s administration will fund subsidy payments to insurers as reason for its scaleback.
Dayton, Ohio-based CareSource will sell exchange polices in the counties Anthem is exiting, according to the report.
