Anthem BCBS launches new HMO plan in Connecticut: 4 things to know

For Medicare's 2017 open enrollment, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is launching a $0 premium Medicare Advantage health maintenance organization plan in six Connecticut counties. It will also add a post-discharge meal benefit to its existing dual-eligible special needs HMO plan. 

Here are four things to know about the plans.

1. The new Medicare Advantage HMO plan, called Anthem MediBlue Select, utilizes a focused network of providers focused on preventive, coordinated care and a positive patient experience, according to a news release.

2. Anthem MediBlue Select will be available in Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven and Windham counties in Connecticut from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, the duration of Medicare's 2017 open enrollment. The plan, which also features pharmacy benefits, has an effective date of Jan. 1, 2017.

3. Aside from Anthem MediBlue Select, Anthem has also added a new benefit, 10 post discharge healthy meals at no cost for those who need them, to its existing dual-eligible special needs HMO plan in Connecticut, according to a news release.

4. The dual-eligible special needs HMO plan also includes drug coverage, a fitness program and allowances for eyewear, hearing aids and healthcare items, such as cold and allergy products, dental products and vitamins. It is available in all Connecticut counties.
