Annapolis, Md.-based Anne Arundel Medical Center and Baltimore-based CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield may end their in-network agreement due to reimbursement disputes, according to a Baltimore Business Journal report.
CareFirst requested "a significant reduction" in reimbursements that would be "unsustainable" for the medical center's operations, AAMC CMO Mitch Schwartz told Baltimore Business Journal. CareFirst countered AAMC's argument by stating AAMC's requested fee increase for specialists and other services is "unjustified and unsupportable," the report states.
Following months of stalled negotiations, AAMC said it will terminate its contract if the two sides fail to reach a resolution by Sept. 30. CareFirst members affected by the change would lose in-network access to AAMC Jan. 1, 2018, and Anne Arundel Medical Group practices and other facilities Oct. 1, 2017.
