Patient safety initiatives kick off across 9 Washington hospitals

Nine hospitals across Washington state have embarked on a focused effort to improve patient safety as part of a campaign led by Washington Hospital Services, according to a July 13 news release.

The initiative was announced earlier this year, challenging member hospitals to find creative ways to further patient safety education at their respective hospitals.

As of now, the participating hospitals include: Astria, Coulee Medical Center, East Adams Rural Hospital, Ferry County, Forks Community Hospital, Jefferson Healthcare, Mason General Hospital, Prosser Memorial and Pullman Regional Hospital.

"Members were encouraged to develop their own safety campaign with formal goals, safety campaign ambassadors, intermittent progress monitoring and reporting, and the all-important safety campaign kick-off messaging to get co-workers working together to achieve their safety campaign goals and obtain Top Performer status," the Washington State Hospital Association said in the release.

One in particular, Jefferson Healthcare in Port Townsend, Wash., is focusing its strategy on a safety-at-home campaign, which promotes patient safety indirectly by having its staff stay safe working remotely or staying home rather than coming to work when feeling ill.

More hospitals in addition to the nine currently participating are also expected to launch uniquely tailored efforts to improve safety.
