UPMC outpatient clinic to transition out services, may close

Pittsburgh-based UPMC Mercy South Side Outpatient Center will begin moving its services to other facilities in the Pittsburgh-based UPMC network in July — leaving the facility with an uncertain future, according to Trib Live.

Hospital officials said UPMC Mercy South side needs at least $10 million in repairs and renovations, a reality that fueled the decision to move outpatient services from the outpatient clinic to other nearby locations. UPMC is still considering whether it will completely close the facility.

In July, other UPMC hospitals will take over surgeries typically performed at UPMC Mercy South Side. In addition, services such as urgent care, rehabilitation, medical testing and imaging will be moved.

“We remain committed to serving the South Side community, and we also will be exploring transportation options for patients from that community who may need it to access additional services at UPMC Mercy,” said UPMC spokesperson Susan Manko, according to Trib Live.
