Police were called to search the building shortly after 2 p.m. after receiving reports that a suspicious package had been “placed in a manner to cause alarm” inside the building, according to the report.

Officials evacuated staff and patients from the facility while police searched the area.

Around 4:30 p.m., the police department’s explosive ordinance disposal unit determined the package was not a threat, according to the report.

The medical center posted a Facebook update roughly an hour later stating officials had cleared the building.

A spokesperson for the medical center provided WFAA8 News with the following statement on the issue: “On March 27, 2017 staff reported a suspicious device to VA Police. VA North Texas HCS activated its emergency operations plan and as a precautionary measure evacuated certain outpatient areas of the Dallas VA Medical Center’s Clinical Addition building. In coordination with VA North Texas HCS, the Dallas Police Department’s Bomb Squad and Dallas Fire & Rescue Hazmat teams [were] on onsite assisting with this incident.”
